Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique silver christening set is a commemorative pair or trio of eating utensils, typically comprising a spoon, fork, or napkin ring, presented in a fitted fabric-lined box. Historically given by godparents during a infant baptism or naming ceremony, these sets served as both practical heirlooms and symbols of prosperity.

The flatware pieces are manufactured from sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring hand-engraved borders or monograms. Presentation cases are constructed from wood or rigid board bound in leatherette or cloth, with internal lining made from silk satin and plush velvet.

Authentic solid silver pieces feature stamped hallmarks indicating the makers mark, purity mark, assay office location, and date letter. Plated versions generally feature maker marks accompanied by designations such as EPNS (Electroplated Nickel Silver).

A cased christening set can be displayed open inside a glazed cabinet, on a sideboard, or placed open on top of stacked books. The contrast between the dark velvet lining and polished silver flatware offers a formal, structured element to tabletop vignettes.

Silver components should be cleaned using a soft cloth and specialized silver polish to remove oxidisation without abrading carved details. The lined box interior should be lightly brushed or dusted with dry compressed air, avoiding liquid cleaners that could damage silk or velvet linings.
