Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian gold cased fob seal employs yellow gold-cased metal alongside a vibrant red carnelian stone set within a square bezel. The face displays a finely carved intaglio of a galloping horse positioned above a strip of ground, with the capitalised word SPEED engraved across the top edge. The outer mount displays chased floral and leaf details with light wear visible on the gold surfaces, while the stone bears very light surface marks without any chips. The bezel measures 16 mm by 12 mm, with an overall height of 23 mm. Items of this type function as desk accessories or pocket watch attachments and suit modern display on a desk in a study or library. Owners wear them as pendants, charms, or attached to watch chains as personal accessories. The piece integrates into traditional or eclectic interiors when placed on display surfaces or stored in collection cabinets alongside other small historic horological and jewellery items.

FAQs

A Georgian fob seal is a personal desktop or pocket accessory from the eighteenth or early nineteenth century used to stamp a personalised device, coat of arms, or motto into melted sealing wax on correspondence.

Georgian seals commonly feature semi-precious gemstones such as carnelian, bloodstone, chalcedony, or amethyst intaglios mounted in solid gold, gold-cased metals, or pinchbeck.

Authentic period seals feature hand-carved gemstone intaglios displaying fine detail, period-appropriate closed-back settings or chased mountings, and natural wear consistent with historical wax application.

Fob seals are often converted or suspended as decorative pendants on modern gold chains, added to charm bracelets, or displayed collectively in velvet-lined collection trays.

Clean gently with a soft microfibre cloth and dry, avoiding immersion in water, ultrasonic cleaners, or chemical polishes that can damage metal plating or stone settings.
