The Victorian Aesthetic Movement, spanning the late 19th century, emphasised visual and artistic qualities over moral or narrative themes, frequently incorporating natural motifs, asymmetrical compositions, and influences from Japanese art.

These pieces typically combine sterling silver blades and tines with handles carved from natural banded agate or chalcedony, often secured with collars featuring textured or engraved details.

Authenticity is verified by examining hallmarks stamped on the silver components, which indicate the maker, assay office, and year of manufacture, alongside natural mineral inclusions and hand-carving marks on the stone handles.

These items can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, used as tabletop styling objects on sideboards, or incorporated into formal dining settings to add historical texture and contrasting materials.

Preservation requires hand washing with mild detergent and warm water, avoiding abrasive polishes on the stone handles, and storing them in tarnish-resistant cloth or lined boxes to prevent surface scratches.
