Elegant Edwardian Aquamarine & Diamond Drop Necklace in 9ct Gold, Circa 1910

1900 - 1920
Description

A gorgeous and exceptionally graceful Edwardian aquamarine and diamond necklace, dating to circa 1910 and handcrafted in 9ct gold with all the delicacy and elegance associated with the finest jewellery of the Belle Époque era.

This beautifully designed necklace is centred by an exquisite diamond-set upper panel, where a row of sparkling rose cut diamonds is arranged within a refined triangular frame. From this, elegant knife-edge bars descend, each accented with further rose cut diamonds, leading to a luminous round aquamarine of delicate icy blue hue.

Below, a slender articulated knife-edge drop continues the design, adorned with a charming leaf motif centred by another rose cut diamond, before culminating in a beautifully proportioned oval aquamarine drop that sways gracefully with movement.

The airy craftsmanship, subtle sparkle and soft blue aquamarines combine to create a necklace of remarkable femininity and refinement. Elegant, timeless and wonderfully flattering when worn, this is a superb surviving example of true Edwardian style.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian jewellery, created between 1901 and 1915, is characterised by light, delicate metalwork, lace-like openwork, and elegant garland motifs. Craftsmen frequently used gold, platinum, aquamarines, seed pearls, and diamonds to create airy, graceful silhouettes.

Edwardian drop necklaces were commonly crafted from 9ct or 15ct yellow gold, as well as platinum. They often incorporated pastel gemstones such as aquamarines, peridots, and amethyst, complemented by small accent diamonds and knife-edge wire suspensions.

Authentic pieces display fine hand-finishing, delicate bezel or claw settings, and slim knife-edge bars. Hallmarks on the clasp or frame indicating gold purity alongside natural gemstone inclusions help confirm period origin.

A delicate drop pendant pairs exceptionally well with contemporary open-neck silk blouses, V-neck evening dresses, or minimalist bridal wear, allowing the central gemstone to hang cleanly against the neckline.

Clean gently using lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush, avoiding harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners. Store the item individually in a lined box to prevent fine chains and openwork settings from tangling or scratching.
