Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver hand mirrors with cherub motifs became prominent in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, influenced by Sir Joshua Reynolds famous 1787 painting A Childs Head in Different Views (Reynolds Angels). Silversmiths adapted this classical imagery onto vanity items using repousse metalworking techniques to adorn dressing tables across Britain.

These items were crafted using a die-stamped or repousse sheet of hallmarked sterling silver mounted over a wooden core, fitted with a silver-backed glass mirror plate. The handles often feature cast silver or reinforced hollow-handled construction.

Authentic British pieces carry a complete set of stamped hallmarks: the lion passant for sterling silver quality, an assay town mark (such as an anchor for Birmingham), a date letter, and a registered makers mark.

Display the hand mirror flat or leaned against a vanity tray on a bedroom dressing table, bedside table, or bathroom counter alongside perfume bottles and jewellery dishes to create a layered, vintage display.

Clean silver surfaces gently using a soft, non-abrasive silver polishing cloth, avoiding liquid polishes that can seep behind the mirror glass or strip the natural oxidised depth from high-relief repousse details.
