Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian style open bookcases typically feature classical proportions, symmetrical construction, and fine hardwood timber, predominantly mahogany. Design details often include moulded cornices, decorative marquetry, and carved feet such as bracket or cabriole styles.

These pieces are primarily constructed from solid mahogany or high-grade mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods like pine. Decorative elements frequently incorporate contrasting timber inlays, such as satinwood or boxwood, alongside carved embellishments.

Look for hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed timber backboards, and authentic age wear on original finishes. Later revival pieces often exhibit precise machine-made joinery while maintaining traditional proportions and decorative motifs.

Integrate a traditional open bookcase by mixing stacked books with architectural objects, contemporary ceramics, and framed art. Placing the unit against a neutral backdrop creates visual balance while allowing the dark timber tones to anchor the room.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber lustre. Avoid placing mahogany furniture in direct sunlight or adjacent to heat sources to prevent timber warping and veneer lift.
