Description

An antique 18th century oak coffer with beautiful carved detail throughout. The coffer features a hinged plank top above a panelled front, richly decorated with repeating carved motifs to the frieze and stiles. The piece retains its original iron lock plate and has a deep oak colour with good wear and patina throughout. The simple panelled construction combined with the decorative carving gives the piece a strong and characterful appearance. A solid and attractive example.

CONDITION REPORT:

In good antique condition throughout with signs of age and use. There is surface wear including marks, scratches, knocks, and historic wear throughout the piece consistent with age. The hinges and lid operate as intended and the coffer remains solid and sound. The back legs are slightly shorter than the front through wear, giving it a gentle backwards slope. There is evidence of historic woodworm, however this has long gone and been treated as a precaution. Overall, the piece presents well with a good colour and patina.
