Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian cabinet makers tool chest is a specialized wooden trunk crafted by 19th-century artisans to house, organize, and protect woodworking tools. These chests frequently featured intricate interior joinery, sliding tills, and painted exteriors displaying the tradesmans name.

Trade chests were typically built using durable softwoods like pine for the outer carcass, often painted for protection. The interiors commonly featured dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut for sliding compartments, alongside brass hinges, iron carrying handles, and hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic period chests show period-correct construction details, including hand-cut dovetails, original iron or brass hardware with age-appropriate oxidisation, natural wear to the base, and original interior till arrangements. Hand-lettered exterior provenance and secondary wood choices also aid identification.

These historical trunks serve effectively as low coffee tables, statement hallway storage, or blanket boxes at the foot of a bed. The contrast between painted exteriors and rich hardwood interiors adds visual texture to contemporary spaces.

Dust surfaces using a clean, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that may strip historic painted lettering or original finishes. Unfinished interior timber and mahogany fittings can be treated periodically with clear beeswax polish to preserve the wood.
