Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Traditional French hall lanterns feature cast brass or bronze frames surrounding clear, moulded, or cut glass shades designed to diffuse light while protecting internal lamps. Originating in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these fittings were traditionally placed in entryways and corridors to provide functional illumination.

Authentic examples typically combine solid cast brass or gilded bronze with heavy moulded or hand-cut glass shades. The metalwork often features decorative scrollwork, hanging chains, and finials, while the glass body displays geometric or faceted light-refracting patterns.

Examine the construction for signs of hand-finished casting, natural surface oxidisation on the brass, and minor irregularities within the glass shade. Authentic period pieces often feature cast bronze or brass crown motifs, original chain links, and threaded brass fixings rather than modern stamped components.

These versatile fittings serve as elegant focal points in compact foyers, stairwells, or above kitchen islands when hung in pairs. The warm metal tones contrast seamlessly with contemporary neutral plaster walls, painted woodwork, or dark moody corridors.

Dust the metal framework regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent buildup without stripping the natural patina. Clean the glass shade using a gentle solution of warm water and mild soap, ensuring all metal components remain completely dry to avoid corrosion.
