Sandbanks Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The bowl depicts a stout British Bulldog standing defiantly atop a Union Flag (Union Jack), set above the patriotic Napoleonic-era motto: "WHAT I GAIN I CAN HOLD."

This piece is a classic example of British patriotic glassware, likely dating from the mid-to-late 1800s.
Form: Bucket-form bowl on a short, multi-knapped stem with a sturdy circular foot.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. The glass is clear with no chips or cracks. Light shelf wear to the base consistent with age (please see photos).

Dimensions: Approximately 15cm high.
Craftsmanship: The engraving is of high quality, showing great texture in the bulldog's coat and precision in the flag's linework.
