A Stunning Early Victorian Sterling Silver and gilt Vinaigrette by renowned maker NATHANIEL MILLS Birmingham 1840.
A larger and heavier than normal Sterling silver gilt vinaigrette, of rectangular form, with shaped edge and all over scroll and flower engraving, the hinged cover opens to reveal a gilt interior, with a pierced hinged grille, fully hallmarked to the interior. Blank cartouche. Hanging loop.
Unusually the grille lifts up from the hinge and not from the side. Contains a sponge.
Measuring 4 cm x 3 cm x 1 cm and weighs 30.3 grams.
In very good antique condition, hallmarks are good, gilding is still bright. The engraving is superb. Opens well and shuts firmly. Clear cartouche.
A bit of light surface wear, scratches and marks, usual signs of wear all commensurate of age and use.
A superb quality item by one of the best.
