Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This silver bonbon dish dates from the 1930 period and exhibits a Victorian style. The object possesses a polished silver colour with a reflective finish, and displays elaborate pierced scrollwork across its walls, a wavy scalloped rim, and small round ball feet supporting the base. Close inspection reveals faint surface marks, minor signs of age and use on the body, and slight tarnishing on the feet. The piece measures 4 cm high and 14.5 cm wide. In a modern home, this decorative bowl suits placement on a sideboard top, dressing table, or living room display shelf to hold small items such as sweets, trinkets, or jewellery. The compact proportions allow placement within traditional or country house interior schemes without occupying excessive surface area.

FAQs

A bonbon dish, or sweetmeat dish, is a small decorative vessel historically designed for serving sweets, candied fruits, or nuts during formal dining or tea service in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These dishes were typically crafted from solid sterling silver or silver plate, featuring techniques such as pierced fretwork, embossing, repousse decoration, and cast scroll borders.

Authentic pieces usually feature official silver hallmarks or makers marks, visible construction seams, precise hand-cut fretwork, and natural signs of minor wear or oxidisation consistent with age.

Small silver dishes function effectively on coffee tables, bedside tables, or sideboards as containers for jewellery, keys, or small personal items, adding metallic contrast to modern decor.

Wash gently with warm water and mild soap, dry thoroughly with a soft cloth, and apply a specialised silver polish occasionally to remove tarnish while preserving detailed metalwork.
