History
The Aesthetic Movement (c. 1860–1900) was a late 19th-century British art, design, and literary movement emphasizing ''art for art''s sake''—that beauty is the primary purpose of art, rather than moral or social themes. It championed exquisite craftsmanship, Japanese art influences, and stylized nature in furniture, fashion, and interiors.
