FAQs

Chinese Export Silver refers to silver items created by Chinese artisans from the late 18th to the mid-20th century primarily for export to Western markets, often blending traditional Chinese motifs with Western silver forms.

These dishes are typically constructed from solid sterling silver or high-grade silver, featuring an authentic trade coin or silver dollar mounted into the centre surrounded by a shaped silver rim.

Authentic pieces often feature maker marks in Chinese characters alongside silver purity stamps such as STERLING or 900, combined with handcrafted joinery and period-appropriate motif details.

Small silver coin dishes serve effectively as catchall trays for jewellery on a bedside table, card holders on a console, or functional accent pieces on an office desk.

Clean silver using a soft microfibre cloth and a specialised silver polish, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers or abrasive materials that can strip natural patination or detail.
