Caddy spoons emerged in the mid-18th century as tea became a valuable luxury commodity in Britain, requiring specialised implements to measure leaves from storage caddies.

These pieces were predominantly handcrafted from sterling silver using techniques such as stamping, engraving, bright-cutting, and fluting to shape bowls into shells or leaves.

Authentic items typically feature crisp hallmarks stamped directly onto the metal, indicating the assay office, date letter, makers mark, and the sterling standard lion passant.

They can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, arranged on silver trays, or incorporated into tabletop styling to introduce tactile historic craftsmanship into modern rooms.

Preservation requires storing items in tarnish-resistant cloths, handling them minimally to avoid skin oils, and cleaning them infrequently with non-abrasive professional silver polish.
