Exceptionally Rare Antique 19th Century Nailsea Type Stevens & Williams Glass Decanter C1870

£675    $912    €794
Description

An exceptionally rare 19th century Nailsea type Yellow/Amber glass decanter dating to c1870, probably made by Stevens and Williams.

It has its original hollow stopper with white pulled feather decoration, the decoration continuing down the neck to a large cushion knop. The main body has very precise machine threading. Clear circular foot.

The ''Nailsea type'' decoration was used by several of the Stourbridge manufactures with both Webb and Stevens and Williams producing some fine threaded decoration on their table ware. On balance we would say it’s probably Stevens and Williams.

Comments

We can’t emphasize enough just how rare this decanter is. We have never seen another in over 20 years and you won’t find one online. The colour is exceptionally rare, as is the threaded decoration in combination with the white feather pulled decoration. We had a cranberry example in the same form back in 2022 but no threading and a simpler feathered design.
