Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century Italian silvered bronze sculptures often depict mythological, classical, or pastoral figures crafted with fine anatomical accuracy. The cast bronze is electroplated or coated with silver, combining classical sculpting traditions with modern metallic surface treatments popularised in the Victorian era.

These pieces were produced by casting a core figure in bronze using the lost-wax or sand-casting technique. The bronze object was then coated in a layer of silver via electroplating or silvering processes, and typically mounted on a carved marble or slate base for stability.

Authentic period examples exhibit crisp cast detailing, natural wear where the underlying bronze shows through silvered high points, and age-appropriate oxidisation. Look for heavy foundry marks or signatures near the base, as well as genuine veined marble plinths attached with aged threaded rods.

A metallic sculpture serves as an effective focal point on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or within an illuminated bookcase. Placing the object alongside dark hardwoods, leather-bound books, or textured ceramics balances the reflective silver tone with warm, contrasting materials.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush. Avoid abrasive metal polishes or harsh chemical cleaners that can strip the delicate silver layer; gentle wiping with a damp cloth followed by a thin coat of microcrystalline wax provides adequate protection against tarnishing.
