Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique silver cruet set is a collection of table vessels designed to hold condiments such as salt, pepper, and mustard. Popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries, these sets provided both functional table service and ornamental decoration for formal dining.

Victorian silver cruet sets are typically manufactured from sterling silver or silver plate, often fitted with removable cobalt blue glass liners. The glass inserts prevent salt and acidic condiments from tarnishing or corroding the silver interior.

Authentic Victorian sterling silver items feature official British hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling purity, an assay office symbol, a makers mark, and a date letter from 1837 to 1901. Decorative features often include hand-chased, repousse, or engraved motifs.

A silver cruet set can be arranged on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or dining table tray to add historical depth to contemporary decor. The individual glass-lined cellars can also be repurposed as vanity dishes for small items or jewellery.

Silver components should be cleaned using a soft microfibre cloth and a dedicated silver polish to remove oxidisation. Glass liners must be removed and washed separately in warm water using mild dish soap before being dried and replaced.
