George II Silver Tablespoon London 1755

£185    $253    €213
A George II silver tablespoon hallmarked for the year 1755 with a George II head. The makers initials WC are present, most probably for William Cripps, although there were several London silversmiths with those initials at this date. The tablespoon is made in the Hanoverian design, typical of the early Georgians. It features an ornate shell on the back of the bowl, which sets it apart from the ordinary. It bears the original owners initials WT on the back of the shaft, also typical of the time. No doubt people travelled and needed to be able to identifique their belongings from others! It’s in excellent condition. Weight 2.5oz.
