Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II silver paten is a shallow, circular sterling silver dish produced during the reign of King George II between 1727 and 1760. Traditionally designed for ecclesiastical communion use or as a domestic waiter for serving small items, these pieces typically feature restrained ornamentation, plain surfaces, and moulded rims.

Georgian patens were hand-hammered from sterling silver containing 92.5 percent silver alloy. Silversmiths raised the dish form manually, added cast or drawn foot rings and moulded edges, and finished the surface through planishing and polishing before submitting the piece for hallmarking.

Authentic British silver from this era bears official hallmarking usually struck on the underside. Look for the lion passant indicating sterling purity, a maker mark, a town mark such as the London leopard head, and a specific date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

A small Georgian silver dish serves as a refined accents on a sideboard top, mantelpiece, or bedside table. It functions well as a catchall for small items or as a decorative tray placed alongside ceramics and glassware to add metallic texture.

Maintain sterling silver by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth. Remove tarnish using a specialised, non-abrasive silver polish applied gently along the metal grain, avoiding harsh chemical dips or abrasive pads that can strip natural oxidisation from detailing.
