Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian ceiling light dates from the 19th century and is designed for a billiard or snooker room. The fixture comprises a dark bronze wrought iron and brass frame with a central drop rod and six branching arms decorated with elaborate scrollwork. Suspended from the arms are six conical fabric shades in an olive green hue, detailed with pleated panels and fringed borders. The metal hardware exhibits a warm aged patina with visible weathering and surface wear suited to its age. Measuring 195.6 cm high by 274.3 cm wide and 142.2 cm deep, this substantial hanging light makes a striking statement. In a modern interior, this imposing piece is well-suited for installation above a full-sized dining table, a kitchen island, or a games table in a traditional living space or study. The combination of dark metalwork and textured fabric creates an authentic period aesthetic that complements heritage interiors and gentleman's library schemes.

FAQs

A Victorian billiard light is a specialised multi-lamp ceiling fixture designed during the 19th century to illuminate snooker and pool tables evenly without casting harsh shadows or causing glare across the playing surface.

Traditional 19th-century snooker lights were constructed from wrought iron, brass, or copper frames, featuring multiple radiating arms fitted with silk, fabric, or enamel shades designed to direct light downward.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-crafted metalwork, decorative scrollwork, historical wiring or gas-fitting conversions, natural surface oxidisation, and distinct elongated proportions suited to classic game tables.

Beyond traditional game rooms, these multi-arm fixtures serve as central statement lighting suspended low over large timber dining tables, kitchen islands, or executive desks in contemporary spaces.

Dust metal frames using a dry microfibre cloth, and clean pleated fabric shades with a soft vacuum brush attachment, avoiding chemical solvents that disrupt historical finishes or delicate textile fibres.
