Scottish provincial silver refers to items crafted and marked outside the main assay offices of Edinburgh and Glasgow, often featuring unique maker marks representing specific towns such as Dundee, Aberdeen, or Perth.

These items are traditionally forged from sterling or coin silver, shaped by hammering and hand-finished with engraved details, often incorporating hereditary family crests or initials.

Authenticity is verified through makers marks, provincial town marks, stylistic dating of the engraving, and the natural patina or oxidisation accumulated over centuries of use.

Antique silver spoons can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, framed as historical wall art, or utilised thoughtfully on a dining table to introduce tactile heritage and metallic contrast to contemporary tableware.

Antique silver should be gently washed in warm water with mild soap, dried immediately with a soft cloth, and polished sparingly using non-abrasive silver cream to preserve the underlying hallmarks and patina.
