Havard and Havard has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The moulded edge lid is detachable and retains its original wooden strut hinges. The front has two inlaid panels centred by chequer stars or florets.
Old but later brassware. Branded “RH” on the underside of the central drawer runner.

Traditionally associated with marriage, these miniature versions of larger coffers would have been used to store a woman`s most precious, small possessions and were often passed down through the female line in Welsh families.
Probably Glamorganshire or Carmarthenshire, circa 1760-1780.
