Edwardian 18ct Gold Pocket Watch Style Locket

1900 - 1920
Description

Edwardian 18ct gold pocket watch style locket hallmarked London 1904 Fred Thoms

This Edwardian locket is beautifully slim, with a top push button opening like a pocket watch. It opens to reveal a complete rimmed glass compartment to enable a photograph or keepsake to be encased. The locket closes perfectly. The back is a lovely smooth plain polished gold which is a fabulous deep yellow as it is 18ct gold.

Fully hallmarked on the inside London 1904 Fred Thoms, who was a watch case maker, with part marks to the front section & the top loop.

We were told this was a wedding gift for a bride on her wedding day with the date engraved on the inside '7th January 1908'. The front is also engraved with ornate initials but it could be worn with the plain polished surface to the front if desired.

A beautiful item of Edwardian jewellery, aesthetically it is gorgeous & the quality is evident.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian lockets, produced between 1901 and 1910, are characterised by delicate craftsmanship, refined metalwork, and classic forms. They often incorporate pocket watch design motifs, elegant monograms, and light, fluid lines typical of early twentieth-century jewellery.

Edwardian lockets were predominantly crafted from high-carat yellow gold, rose gold, platinum, and sterling silver. Interior frames were fitted with glass or mica covers to secure photos or keepsake mementos.

Authentic Edwardian pieces often bear British hallmarks indicating gold purity, makers marks, and date letters. Design details such as hand-engraved initials, crisp pocket watch hinges, and period-specific suspension rings further assist in identification.

Antique jewellery pieces can be styled within a home interior by displaying them under glass dome cloches, mounted inside velvet-lined shadow boxes, or arranged atop vintage dressing table trays alongside framed portrait photography.

Gold lockets should be wiped gently with a soft microfibre cloth and stored separately in a fabric-lined box to prevent scratching. Avoid submerging lockets with internal portraiture or delicate mechanisms in liquid chemical cleaners.
