The rectangular hinged box stands upon four bracket feet, the shibuichi panel to the lid is exquisitely carved in katakiribori by a highly regarded and well recorded artist in this field, and depicts the most charming subject matter of a young attendant at rest upon the loins of his recumbant water buffalo, his hands clasped above his head whilst his hat and cane can be seen at his feet. The artists fine carving further highlighted with gold and silver inlays. The lowwer right hand corner carries the script signature and gold seal for the artist Sugiura Komin .
