Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pounce pot is a small shaker historically used in writing to sprinkle powdered resin, gum sandarac, or cuttlefish bone onto rough parchment or paper. This process smoothed the writing surface and prevented ink from feathering or bleeding.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using traditional silversmithing techniques such as repousse, chasing, stamping, and piercing for the shaker lid perforations.

Authenticity is determined by examining official British hallmarks stamped onto the metal, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for sterling silver, a town mark indicating the assay office, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

This type of antique can be styled on an executive desk, within a glass display cabinet, or incorporated into a curated bookshelf vignette to add metallic texture and historical interest.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a soft microfiber cloth and a specialist non-abrasive silver polish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip away the desirable historical patina.
