This pair of nineteenth-century Georgian chamber candlesticks is made of Old Sheffield plate combining silver and copper, presenting a silver finish with visible copper bleed on one tray surface. Each piece stands on a circular tray base featuring a gadrooned rim, a looped handle with initials faintly engraved on the thumb piece, a central candle holder with a removable sconce, and a conical extinguisher resting alongside. The metal shows minor surface scratches, aged patina, and a slight variation between the two extinguishers. Measuring 9 cm in height and 14 cm in width, these candlesticks are marked on the bases and interiors with a fleur-de-lis for the maker Waterhouse and Company. Placed on a sideboard top in a dining room or living space, these traditional candlesticks bring period character to a tabletop setting. They suit classic interior schemes, functioning both as decorative accessories and as functional lighting vessels for evening ambiance. The antique construction methods and matching pairs make them a practical addition to a collector's display of Georgian silver-plated tableware.

Old Sheffield Plate refers to metalware produced by fusing a layer of sterling silver onto a copper ingot before rolling it into sheets, a technique developed in the mid-eighteenth century prior to electroplating.

Georgian chambersticks were hand-crafted using stamped or drawn silver sheets, featuring a broad circular tray to catch wax drips, an integrated side handle, and a removable conical extinguisher fitted onto the nozzle or stem.

Authentic pieces often exhibit slight bleeding where copper shows through worn silver edges, feature turned-over silver rims to conceal the copper core, and display hand-punched maker marks rather than electroplate stamps.

These pieces function as sophisticated accent decor on sideboard tops, mantelpieces, or bookshelves, working well either as symmetrical pairs or layered alongside natural timber and stoneware.

Clean gently using a non-abrasive silver foam or cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes or over-buffing that can strip the delicate silver layer and expose the copper substrate.
