Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. This Georgian-style tea caddy originates from around 1920 and takes the form of a silver plated container with a lobed body, a hinged serpentine lid, and a dark carved ribbed finial. Visible details include a rope-twist border moulding around the lid edge, an engraved crest of a lion holding a crown on the top surface, and small British hallmarks stamped near the corner of the lid. The silver plating exhibits a soft patina with minor surface signs of age, while the upright sides show vertical fluting. Measuring 12 cm high, 9 cm wide, and 7 cm deep, the caddy suits placement on a dining room sideboard top or a living room side table for display or small storage uses within an English Country House interior setting.

FAQs

A Georgian-style silver tea caddy is a specialised container designed for storing loose tea leaves, executed in the aesthetic traditions of 18th-century English metalwork.

Traditional tea caddies were crafted from sterling silver, silver plate, brass, or mahogany, often featuring carved wood or bone finials and soldered metal hinges.

Authenticity can be evaluated by inspecting maker marks or electroplate stamps, examining construction seams, and observing period-appropriate decorative techniques such as fluting or chasing.

A silver tea caddy can be styled atop a dining room sideboard, displayed within a curated bookshelf vignette, or arranged alongside glassware on a drinks tray.

Clean silver plate using a soft cotton cloth and a mild silver polish, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners or submersion in water to prevent wear to the plating.
