A Pair of German Helena Wolfsohn Cabinet Plates, c. 1860

This pair of cabinet plates, dating to around 1860, features a highly ornate decorative pattern characteristic of Helena Wolfsohn’s workshop. The scenes include uniformed soldiers; although the exact regiments remain unidentified, the imagery appears to commemorate a collaboration between nations or possibly a peace agreement.

Helena Wolfsohn was a respected porcelain decorator active from approximately 1843 to 1883, known for embellishing porcelain blanks sourced from various manufacturers. She became especially celebrated for her Rococo-inspired pieces, distinguished by their rich ornamentation, vibrant floral motifs, shells, and scrolling foliage.

Maker’s Mark:

Helena Wolfsohn “AR” (Augustus Rex–type mark).

Both plates retain old collector’s labels on the reverse, as shown in the photos.
