Andrew Cox Antiques has dated this Victorian Silver Potpourri Basket to the Victorian era.
There are two centrally hinged lids of pierced fretwork design, featuring bunches of cherries. The geometric fretwork and the bunches of cherries are delightfully repeated to the attractively shaped body, which has a stippled finish. The Potpourri is finished with rope twist borders, which charmingly continue the basket theme and the interior retains a light wash of gilding. A superb piece, both decorative and usable.
