Silver menu holders gained popularity during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods as formal multi-course dinners required designated stands to display the menu at each place setting or along the table.

These pieces were typically cast or stamped in solid sterling silver using traditional silversmithing techniques, often featuring intricate hand-finished details and weighted bases for stability.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the metal, which indicate the assay office, standard of silver purity, and the date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

These small decorative objects can be displayed on a sideboard, within a glass cabinet, or repurposed on a desk to add a touch of historical character and refined detail to modern spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain the patina, avoiding harsh liquid dips that can strip away desirable historical ageing.
