Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Folded copper tabs securing the cut glass jewels: hand assembly.
Soft-soldered seams along the base collar: traditional workshop construction.
Dark oxidisation sitting in the recesses of the relief: natural age across the surface.
Die-stamped copper panels with matching floral decoration: early twentieth-century metal presswork.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1920s Moroccan Revival pendant light is a large hanging lantern formed from copper and glass. The teardrop-shaped body displays chased floral patterns, pierced metalwork, and faceted clear glass inserts, and it suspends from a chain. The copper panels show pressed designs alongside twenty-four pear-shaped cut glass panels, and the lantern incorporates rewired electrical components with a new bulb holder. It measures 44 cm high, 25 cm wide, and 25 cm deep. Interior settings in contemporary homes accommodate this pendant light well as a decorative ceiling fixture, where it casts illuminated patterns through the pierced metalwork and glass inserts. Placed in hallways, living spaces, or dining areas, the lantern functions as a primary or accent light source. The antique copper finish and glass construction complement bohemian, eclectic, or traditional room schemes.

FAQs

During the 1920s, exoticism influenced decorative arts, leading to the popularity of Moroccan and Orientalist revival styles. These hanging lanterns feature pierced metalwork, teardrop silhouettes, and glass inserts designed to cast patterned ambient light.

1920s pendant lanterns were commonly crafted from copper or brass sheet metal with chased, embossed, or hand-pierced detailing. Cut or moulded glass cabochons and clear glass inserts were set into the framework to refract light.

Authentic pieces display natural copper oxidisation and patina rather than uniform modern chemical finishes. Look for period-appropriate joinery, soldered seams, hand-punched piercing variations, and original ceiling fitting mounts.

Position the lantern in an entryway, hallway, or small seating nook to create a focal point. The warm metal tone pairs effectively with neutral walls, exposed brickwork, or dark timber panelling.

Dust the copper surface gently with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid chemical cleaners that strip natural patina. Clean individual glass inserts using a damp cotton swab, and ensure electrical wiring is inspected by a qualified electrician prior to installation.
