Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Novelty silver cruet sets modelled as chess pieces gained popularity during the mid-20th century, combining utilitarian dining table functions with whimsical sculptural design inspired by traditional Staunton chess sets.

These pieces are typically cast or spun from sterling silver, often featuring detailed chasing or engraving to delineate the figures, and are fitted with internal liners or threaded bases for functional dispensing.

Authenticity is verified by locating official government hallmarks stamped on the silver, which indicate the metal purity, assay office, and date letter, alongside makers marks and weight specifications.

These items can be displayed as focal points on a dining table centre, within a glazed cabinet, or styled on a sideboard as part of a curated collection of metalware and curiosities.

Sterling silver should be cleaned periodically using a specialist non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage intricate surface details and hallmarks.
