Large camphorwood campaign trunk.
 
This Large camphorwood campaign trunk was made circa 1900.
 
It would have been purchased by a British officer who was in service in the Far East.
 
These were made of camphorwood, a timber that gives off a beautiful perfume, that we adore but the insects and moths avoid. This meant the uniforms would not get eaten by the insects.
 
The trunk has the lifting lid that opens to reveal full storage inside.
 
The exterior has brass straps on the corners to protect the chest as it was loaded onto wagons, carts, and ships.
 
To each end is a brass carrying handle to allow ease of moving this wonderful piece around,
 
These camphorwood campaign trunks make great coffee tables and conversation pieces. They also can be used as great storage at the end of a bed or in an alcove or bay window.
