Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XVI style seating is defined by Neoclassical proportions, straight lines, and inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman design. Common elements include fluted tapering legs, carved rosettes on corner blocks, and carved foliage such as acanthus leaves.

Frames were carved from hardwoods such as beech or walnut before applying a gesso base and gold leaf gilding. Seats were traditionally upholstered using webbed construction, horsehair padding, and hand-tacked upholstery with brass studding.

Authentic pieces from circa 1900 display hand-carved joinery, natural wear to the gilding revealing the underlying red or yellow clay bole, and crisp classical architectural details on the leg joints and frieze.

These versatile seats are designed to sit within deep window recesses, at the foot of a bed, or along narrow hallways and foyers where low-profile seating is required without blocking light.

Giltwood requires dry dusting with a soft feather duster or microfiber cloth, avoiding water or chemical cleaners that dissolve gold leaf or gesso. Fabric upholstery should be vacuumed gently using a low-suction brush attachment.
