We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French hall lanterns originated as functional lighting fixtures for entryways, vestibules, and staircases in traditional European homes, evolving from candle-lit street lanterns into decorative interior pieces during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Authentic lanterns are typically constructed using cast or sheet brass frames soldered or screwed together, housing hand-blown glass panels such as curved or convex cylinders secured with internal clips.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the metal patina, hand-cut joinery, inconsistencies in the blown glass panels, and period-appropriate wiring or conversion evidence rather than modern mass-produced components.

Hanging a classic metal and glass lantern in an entryway or hallway creates a focal point that contrasts effectively with contemporary minimalist architecture and neutral colour palettes.

Brass components should be dusted regularly with a soft dry cloth and cleaned periodically using a mild non-abrasive metal cleaner to preserve the natural oxidisation, while glass panels can be wiped with standard glass cleaner.
