Silver decanter labels, also known as bottle tickets, originated in the mid-18th century in England to identify contents of decanters when decanted liquor bottles looked identical on the dining table.

They are traditionally crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as stamping, piercing, engraving, and sometimes cast ornamentation, hung by a matching chain around the neck of a decanter.

Authenticity is verified through clear British hallmarks stamped on the metal, indicating the assay office (such as Chester), the standard mark (sterling silver), the makers mark, and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of production.

They can be displayed on vintage decanters placed on a bar cart, styled inside a traditional cabinet, or incorporated into a home bar setup to add historic metallic detail.

Preservation involves storing them in a dry environment to prevent oxidisation, and cleaning gently with a soft microfibre cloth or specialised silver polish only when necessary to protect the original hallmarks.
