Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This tall 19th-century Gothic Revival floor-standing church candleholder brings Victorian ecclesiastical presence to a domestic interior. The object combines a warm polished brass finish with a dark black iron and brass structure, displaying a spiral-twisted brass column rising from a wide flared base secured with small bracket feet, along with decorative scrolling brackets and finials near the midpoint. The piece stands 160 cm high with a base diameter of 50 cm, maintaining its original condition with some surface damage visible to one section of the brass plating on the base. It suits placement in a fireplace alcove or corner of a hallway as a striking standalone display object.

FAQs

Ecclesiastical floor candlesticks, often designed as paschal candle stands or pricket standards, were crafted for liturgical settings during the Victorian era and Gothic Revival movement.

These standards were predominantly cast in solid brass, bronze, or wrought iron, featuring heavy bases, turned shafts, and spiral-twisted columns to ensure stability during religious services.

Authentic pieces demonstrate hand-assembled threaded metal components, substantial base weight, hand-chased detailing, and evidence of natural oxidisation within unpolished recesses.

A tall brass candle standard functions as a sculptural accent when placed inside a fireplace alcove, beside an entryway, or in an unused room corner to provide vertical proportion.

Dust surfaces regularly with a microfibre cloth and polish brass areas using a specialised non-abrasive metal cleaner, avoiding harsh chemicals that strip natural patina from iron elements.
