An exquisite Neoclassical French sentimental brooch, c.1760, depicting the myth of Cupid and Psyche. The oval jewel is formed from finely worked 14ct gold appliqué, set against a woven crimson silk ground and preserved beneath a domed glass cover. The reverse is crafted in silver-gilt and fitted with its original extended steel pin and open C-clasp. This combination of precious metal, textile, and glass exemplifies the refined sentimental jewels of the late Georgian period.

Gold appliqué relief: Delicately cut sheets of 14ct gold (tested, no hallmark), forming the intimate figures of Cupid and Psyche.
 
Silk ground: A crimson silk panel symbolising passion, loyalty, and enduring love.
