Lithyalin glass is a type of opaque, heavily stained art glass developed in Bohemia during the 1820s and 1830s, designed to imitate precious stones like jasper and agate.

These items were crafted from heavy potash glass treated with metallic oxides to create marbled or patterned opaque surfaces, frequently mounted with silver or silver-gilt collars and caps.

Authentic pieces exhibit deep mineral-like coloration throughout the glass body rather than just a surface coating, often accompanied by period-appropriate hand-cut facets and hallmark-free precious metal mounts.

Placed upon a mirrored tray on a dressing table or within a glass-fronted cabinet, such pieces introduce rich colour and historical texture to contemporary spaces.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid immersing the piece in water, particularly if silver-gilt mounts or historical stoppers are present, to prevent degradation of the metallic finish.
