DESCRIPTION
This is a superb mahogany library bookcase in the Gothic taste, circa 1835 and later, of generous proportion and good colour. The upper section with a boldly moulded cornice over adjustable shelves flanked by gothic pilasters, the lower section with panelled doors opening to reveal further adjustable shelves, standing on a plinth base. This bookcase exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of the early 19th century and would make a statement in any private library, drawing room, or office.
Provenance: By repute from Charville Castle, a fine 19th century Gothic-style castle in Tullmore, County Offaly.

There are minor marks, knocks and scratches commensurate with age and use. There are chips to the veneer, largely to the sides where the two sections separate, and scuffs around the plinth.
