Description

This is a fabulous quality, all original 18th century Dutch cabinet. The marquetry inlay in exceptional and makes this stand out in any interior. The thin glass in the top half again all original and has the tell tale signs of bubbling and waviness consistent with antique glass thats just beautiful. The top cabinet opens and locks well and contains two shelves ideal for plates, books or trinkets. The base is lightly faded in parts but nothing that takes away from the piece. Behind the cupboard doors is a shelved interior complete with two hidden oak drawers that are a lovely detail.

The size overall is impressive but remains neat. The shape of the cabinet is very elegant and the quality isn't done justice in these images.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Eighteenth-century Dutch marquetry furniture is characterised by intricate floral and foliage wood inlays, often set against a contrasting timber ground, reflecting the periods obsession with botanical illustration and craftsmanship.

These pieces typically feature a carcase of oak or pine veneered with walnut, satinwood, and other exotic woods, employing hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional hide glues, and intricate hand-sawn veneer patterns.

Authenticity is indicated by period-correct hand-blown glass with natural imperfections, hand-cut dovetailing, period iron or brass hardware, and the natural oxidisation and shrinkage cracks within the veneer and timber.

Pairing ornate antique cabinetry with minimalist modern surroundings allows the craftsmanship to stand out as a focal point, creating a balanced contrast between old and new design elements.

Maintain stable relative humidity and temperature away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting, and treat the wood periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicon polishes.
