We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Guilloche enamel involves engraving a metal surface with a repetitive geometric pattern using a mechanical lathe, then applying translucent vitreous enamel over the top. This technique experienced a significant revival during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods of the early 20th century.

These pieces are typically constructed from sterling silver or silver-gilt (vermeil), combined with powdered glass fired at high temperatures to create the vitreous enamel coating. Maker marks and silver standard stamps are often found on the reverse.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-turned engine-turned engraving visible beneath glossy, translucent enamel, alongside period-correct closures such as a C-clasp or early safety catch. Hallmarks indicating the metal purity and country of origin are also key indicators.

Vintage brooches can be pinned to coat lapels, silk scarves, knitwear cardigans, or used to fasten structured handbags. Mixing historic metalwork with contemporary minimalist outfits creates a distinct contrast.

Vitreous enamel should be cleaned gently using a soft cloth and lukewarm soapy water, avoiding harsh chemical dips or ultrasonic cleaners which can damage the glass coating or weaken the silver mount.
