Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver produced during the William IV period (18301837) and late Regency era frequently features robust, heavy proportions with ornate lobed or melon-shaped bodies. Silversmiths applied elaborate naturalistic ornament, including cast leaf finials, scroll handles, and chased floral motifs.

These services were crafted from sterling silver, which consists of 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Lids were fitted with cast silver or ebony finials, while creamers and sugar basins were frequently finished with interiors lined in gold gilt to protect the silver from chemical corrosion caused by milk and sugar acids.

Authentic pieces carry full British hallmark sequences struck into the metal. These include the lion passant for sterling quality, a makers mark, a town mark such as the leopards head for London, a date letter, and the monarchs head duty mark depicting William IV or George IV.

An antique silver service can be displayed on a polished wooden sideboard, a marble console, or a tray atop a drinks trolley. Combining reflective silver surfaces with contemporary minimalist decor provides a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern lines.

Regular dusting and gentle polishing with a soft cloth and specialized non-abrasive silver cream will prevent tarnish build-up. Pieces should be washed by hand in warm, soapy water, thoroughly dried immediately to avoid water spots, and stored in tarnish-inhibiting cloth bags away from high humidity.
