Old Sheffield Plate is an early form of silver plating created by fusing a layer of silver to a copper core, predominantly produced from the mid-18th century until the introduction of electroplating around 1840.

These items were typically hand-raised from fused metal sheets, featuring soldered applied wire borders, cast handles, and detailed chased or embossed decorative motifs.

Authentic pieces often reveal a subtle yellowish copper line showing along cut edges or areas of wear, and typically pre-date official silver hallmarks, often bearing makers marks instead.

Display the set on a sideboard or serving tray to introduce metallic contrast and reflective texture into dining rooms or living spaces.

Use a non-abrasive silver cloth or specialized mild silver polish specifically formulated for plated items, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage the thin silver layer.
