Coffers served as versatile storage units in households before fitted wardrobes became common, often used to store textiles, documents, and valuables.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid native oak using frame-and-panel construction to accommodate the natural expansion and contraction of wood.

Authentication relies on examining hand-cut joints, original forged iron hinges and locks, tool marks, and the natural oxidisation and patina developed over centuries.

A coffer functions effectively as a coffee table in a living room or as blanket storage at the foot of a bed, grounding modern spaces with historical texture.

Maintenance requires keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight, applying natural beeswax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
