Description

This is a tall Georgian, English double series opaque twist ale glass dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1765.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has an extended ogee-shaped bowl measuring 5.2 cm (2.1 inches) in diameter. The bowl is plain and sits on a double series opaque twist stem consisting of two white enamel lace tapes wound around a central twist of two enamel cords. The stem ends in a conical foot which measures 7.8 cm (3.1 inches) in diameter. The glass is 18 cm (7.2 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There are a couple of minute unburst bubbles in the metal of the foot dating from manufacture. There is a collector's label for the Harald Leuba Collection to the underside of the foot.

Lead glass weighing in at 160 g. (~ 5 1/2 oz.).
