The body of this antique Victorian silver wine goblet is embellished with impressive bright cut engraved decorated foliate and floral spray designs, incorporating two cartouches.

The cartouche to one side depicts a scene of a male figure playing cricket and the opposing side of the goblet incorporates the engraved inscription 'Mohawk Cricket Club presented by Mr G H Scott For Best Bowling Average. 1st Eleven Season 1884 5 won by Mr J W Turnbull'*.

The drinking vessel surmounts a waisted knopped pedestal to a circular domed foot, each encompassed with bead decorated borders.

The hallmarked foot is further encircled with bright cut engraved leaf decoration.

This exceptional goblet is presented with an impressive silver tie pin, incorporating an applied cricket bat motif.

The bright cut engraved decoration is all very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the goblet and part hallmarks to the underside of the foot are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

The hallmarks to the underside of the bat are clear, however obscured by the construction.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Victorian silverware.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, silver presentation goblets were frequently awarded as sporting trophies, military honours, or commemorative gifts. These items featured detailed hand engraving, often depicting specific athletic pursuits, heraldic crests, or dedication inscriptions.

Victorian goblets were predominantly crafted from sterling silver (925 fineness standard) or silver plate. They were formed through spinning or raising techniques, with decorative details added through hand-chasing, engraving, and cast embellishments.

Authentic British sterling silver from the Victorian period bears full hallmarks, including the lion passant mark, a town mark, a date letter, and a makers mark. The monarchs duty mark was also applied on pieces produced between 1838 and 1890.

Antique silver goblets serve as accent pieces when displayed on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or bookshelf. Grouping silver objects alongside glass barware or contemporary decor provides visual contrast in modern settings.

Maintain silver goblets by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and polishing periodically using a non-abrasive silver polish. Avoid washing with harsh detergents or storing in high-humidity environments to prevent rapid tarnish and oxidisation.
