Fine Victorian 15ct Gold Flat Cut Almandine Garnet Brooch, C 1860

Description

A beautiful Victorian 15ct gold almandine garnet brooch made circa 1860.

Crafted from solid 15ct gold (not marked but tested) it features 9 shimmering deep red/purply flat cut almandine garnets on its intricately decorated body which is folded into a relaxed wonderfully detailed knot. The gold surface has been chased and engraved with a foliate motif.

The Victorian era was full of symbolism, and this brooch once would have been not just a piece of jewellery but would have symbolised a loving bond, such as marriage and most likely was a gift of love.

Dimensions: 34?24 mm, 9 flat cut almandine garnets - 5?4 mm, total weight of the brooch 4.2 grams.

Condition: excellent condition, all stones are original and present, the old c-type clasp in good working order (the needle is not gold).

N.B. The listing is for the brooch only, all the other items in the photo are only used as props. The brooch will be sent to a prospective buyer in a new presentation box.
