A very unusual and rare Victorian cameo of winged young fairy scattering roses in flight!
In many years of collecting and selling cameos I’ve never come across this subject before and it is so sweet and joyful. A charming young fairy with delicate butterfly wings, the light semi-transparent draping band is flowing in the wind and tiny roses are being generously scattered in flight.
The carving is excellent, clean and crisp and nicely detailed, the fairy’s face is cute and lovely, the whole image is light and airy, full of grace and beauty.
The cameo is carved on a lovely carnelian shell with very intelligent use of graduating colour, giving the impression of a fairy flying towards the light.
The cameo is framed in a classical rope detailed frame fully crafted in 9ct gold (tested), not overpowering the cameo, but giving it an elegant finished look.
Dimensions: 58?47mm including frame, visible part of cameo excluding the frame 55x43 mm.
Condition: excellent, the shell i
...s in immaculate condition, and so is the frame – top quality work, with the gold needle and safe roll-over clasp (possibly later addition), everything in good working order.
